Source: Ford Motor CompanyFord Motor Company recently released their financial statement for the first quarter of 2018. In addition to announcing revenue increases of 7 percent compared to 2017 and a 9 percent increase in net income to $1.7 billion, CEO Jim Hackett also provided Ford's strategic framework vision for long-term value. Part of this strategy is eliminating almost all of the company's line of sedans.
Hackett stated that by 2020, 90 percent of the company's portfolio in North America will consist of trucks, crossovers, SUVs and commercial vehicles. The main reason provided was a decrease in consumer demand and product profitability. Ford will continue to manufacture the best-selling Mustang model, as well as a new Focus Active crossover vehicle being introduced in 2019. Ford will also explore what they referred to as "white space" vehicle silhouettes; vehicles that combine features such as higher ride height, space and versatility.
Ford is also committing resources to research and develop new propulsion choices, which includes hybrid-electric powertrains in high-volume and profitable trucks and cars such as the Mustang, Explorer, F-150 and Bronco.
The 'crossover' is just the new sedan. Stretched a little vertically.
".. by 2020, 90 percent of the company's portfolio in North America will consist of trucks, crossovers, SUVs and commercial videos. .."
I find that hard to believe.
"commercial videos"? Is Edsel Ford trying to catch up to Howard Hughes in producing movies?
