A new electrical insulation material that inhibits current leakage and short circuits, protects against harsh environments, aids in heat dissipation and absorbs vibrations is lighter than a potting compound with a convenient dispensing method similar to that of a conformal coating.
Conformal coatings provide basic protection against moisture and dust. Potting compounds provide full protection, but they add weight and cost to the component. CONASHIELD™ by ELANTAS PDG, Inc. provides a true balance between the performance of a potting compound and the convenience of a conformal coating.
The novel material provides moisture and chemical resistance with heat dissipation. It protects against mechanical shock and vibration. It provides a convenient dispensing similar to that of a conformal coating while providing up to a 60 percent reduction in weight when compared to a potting compound.
Conformal coating:
- Provides basic protection against moisture and dust
Potting compound:
- Full protection, including mechanical shock, vibration and heat dissipation
- Adds weight and cost to the component
CONASHIELD™ “flood coat” technology provides the necessary protection required for electronic components. It features the following benefits:
- Inhibits current leakage and short circuits due to humidity, condensation and environmental contamination
- Absorption of thermal load to aid in heat dissipation
- Absorption of mechanical load, such as vibration dissipation
- Protects components against harsh environments
