Richard Greaves Named SAE 2015 President
February 13, 2015Dr Richard Greaves, Meggitt PLC’s Chief Technology Officer Emeritus, was named president of SAE International, the global association that unites more than 138,000 engineers and technical experts to build knowledge and expertise throughout the engineering profession.
“It is a great honor,” says Greaves. “I’ve been working with SAE for 35 years and the organization is achieving more than ever in its three key areas: education, training and connecting engineers and experts from all areas of mobility engineering and standards development for commercial vehicles, automobiles and aerospace.”
Greaves, the first SAE president from the aerospace sector in nine years, has held roles at Meggitt, the international engineering group. He established the group’s expertise in piezoelectric vibration accelerometers from 1972 when he joined Vibro-Meter in Switzerland, the company later acquired by Meggitt. After that, he built Meggitt Sensing Systems, the division of which he was president for 10 years.
Greaves remains a world expert on condition monitoring and has served on the SAE Board since January 2012.
"More than 60% of all aerospace standards are SAE standards," Greaves says, "and the 10,000 people who work on our technical standards boards and committees cover every aspect of aircraft."
