ASTM International will launch a new group to develop standards for training workers in the aerospace industry.

The ASTM Committee F46 on Aerospace Personnel will be led by manufacturers, nonprofit organizations, educational institutions and other stakeholders, and will develop internationally accepted standards that “define the core competencies for aerospace personnel, providing a baseline for education, testing, and certification requirements,” ASTM says.

“The committee will make efforts to train and certify aerospace personnel to a new level, advancing National Center for Aerospace and Transportation Technologies efforts, while supporting the broader goals of agencies like the FAA”, says Lee Brewster, NCATT program representative for ASTM.

ASTM says it hopes the standard will result in an improved ability for employers to be able to attract and retain highly skilled workers, and also for workers to have a clear idea of the opportunities in this field.
