Colombia-based Avianca Holdings has placed a $10.6 billion preliminary order with Airbus to buy 100 A320neo-family aircraft.

The airline group plans to rely on A320neo-family airliners for its fleet renewal program. In 2012, Avianca ordered 51 A320-family aircraft as part of its expansion and modernization programs.

Avianca now has placed a total of 200 orders for Airbus aircraft. At present, it has 130 Airbus aircraft in service.

Six other Latin American customers have ordered these aircraft, including Azul, INterjet, LAN, TAM, VivaAerobus and Volaris, for a total of 245 orders.

More than 550 Airbus aircraft are in operation across Latin America and the Caribbean.
