The mobile battery system is designed as a zero-emissions substitute for diesel generators. Source: NorthvoltA portable energy storage solution has been jointly designed by battery developer Northvolt and energy company Vattenfall, both in Sweden, to provide local demand with temporary power or as a long-term plug-and-play solution. The modular Voltpack Mobile System includes an AC interface hub connecting up to five 245 kWh lithium-ion battery Voltpacks.
The power supply solution is offered as a zero-emissions substitute for diesel generators in remote electricity grids, to provide electric vehicle charging or for balancing power and other ancillary grid services. The system delivers up to 250 kW with a scalable capacity from 245 to 1,225 kWh through the hub, which serves as an interface for applications and houses inverter and auxiliary systems. Additional storage capacity can be secured by connecting multiple Voltpack Mobile Systems in parallel.
Final validation of the liquid-cooled battery storage system will be conducted at Vattenfall’s test and certification center in Älvkarleby, Sweden, with commercial production scheduled for 2021.
But it must still be charged....

That's what the diesel generator is for.
But in all seriousness, maybe this allows the generator to be operated at it's most efficient loading while charging the batteries and then let the batteries continue to supply power for those light and intermittent loads.
