The new Sync 3 communications and entertainment system will first be installed in 2016 Escape and Fiesta models. It will expand to include all Ford vehicles sold in North America by the end of 2016.

The system will feature new hardware and software, conversational voice recognition, faster performance, a smartphone-like touch screen and a simpler graphical interface, Ford says. In addition, commands and smartphone-like gestures will also be included.

With Sync3, drivers can integrate AppLink, Siri Eyes-Free capability, software updates via Wi-Fi and an enhanced, subscription-free 911 Assist.

The open-source QNX platform may make it easier for Ford to get software updates, and is supported by a community of developers.
