Just in time for the holiday season, Sony expects to unleash its Aibo robotic artificial intelligence (AI) dogs in the United States.
With a price tag of $2,899, the dogs are able to learn behaviors and recognize faces thanks to a combination of image sensors and AI.
Additionally, the robotic dogs develop their own unique personalities by interacting with human companions.
"This is truly a one-of-a-kind product designed to connect with its owners on an emotional level," Sony Electronics North America President Mike Fasulo said.
Like real dogs, Aibo is capable of learning tricks and locating its human companions. The robotic dog also responds to words, praise and shows of affection.
Yet, what sets Aibo apart from real dogs is that its owner can readjust system settings and add new tricks.
The “First Litter Edition” Aibo will be available to order next month in the U.S. and will ship by the holiday season, according to Sony.
