John Deere Leads Manufacturing Companies in Employee Satisfaction: PayScale Report

13 March 2018

Deere & Co. has the highest employee satisfaction among all U.S. companies classified as manufacturing, according to salary, benefits and compensation aggregator PayScale. Deere operates the John Deere brand and is based in Moline, Illinois.

PayScale’s survey culled data from 62,000 employers using 276,000 employee profiles. Employees were instructed to rank the statement, "I am extremely satisfied working for my employer," on a five-point scale from strongly disagree (5) to strongly disagree (1). PayScale classified a “4” or “5” rating as high satisfaction and then analyzed the percentage of employees who rated their employer as such.

The top five companies in the manufacturing category include:

-Deere & Co., Moline, Illinois: 94 percent highly satisfied workforce

-ThyssenKrupp, Alpharetta, Georgia: 91 percent highly satisfied workforce

-IDEX Corporation, Lake Forest, Illinois: 90 percent highly satisfied workforce

-Intuitive Surgical Inc., Sunnyvale, California: 89 percent highly satisfied workforce

-The Toro Company, Minneapolis, Minnesota: 89 percent highly satisfied workforce

Well-known companies further down the list include SKF USA (88 percent highly satisfied), Garmin International (85 percent) and Ford Motor Company (80 percent).

PayScale also analyzed companies classified as technology and engineering & science. Planning and design firm Gannett Fleming Inc. led in the engineering & science category, with 94 percent highly satisfied employees.

New York-based Infor Global Solutions led the Tech category with 95 percent high satisfaction. Major tech players like AirBNB (93 percent), Facebook (91 percent) and Electronic Arts (85 percent) also scored greater than 80 percent high satisfaction.

PayScale classifies its companies using a custom set of North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code groupings. The company was founded in 2002 and relies on employee-submitted salary and job data to develop salary and employment indices.
