Flying cars, the stuff of science fiction, could very well become our reality within the next decade according to Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi.

“There will be people flying around Dallas, Texas,” Khosrowshahi said at the Digital Life Design (DLD) tech conference in Munich last week, “I think it’s going to happen within the next ten years.”

The concept, called UberAir, has Uber teaming up with NASA to create traffic concepts allowing for the safe and regular operation of such aircraft.

Convinced the concept will help reduce the issue of gridlock in high-traffic cities, Uber is also working in conjunction with aircraft, infrastructure and real estate planners to develop fixed routes between major cities.

To see what Uber imagines with this concept, watch the accompanying video.
