Landis-Bryant UL2 Image credit: FivesFives Landis recently introduced the Landis-Bryant UL2 high precision internal production grinder to its line of ID/OD grinders. The UL2 is specifically designed for internal grinding, reducing compromises made by combination ID/OD grinders. It is best suited for grinding bores and faces in bearing rings, universal joint cups, valve lifters, gears and similar components up to am external diameter of 177 mm.

To maximize thermal stability, oil and coolant are circulated through the base to normalize machine temperatures. The UL2 bed casting is manufactured with a special torque tube design that resists torsional and bending forces. The three-point leveling support provides an extremely stable base.

The independent X and Z round bar hydrostatic slides are mounted directly to the base, creating a stiff system with a low center of gravity. Automatic workpiece loading solutions are available, as are in-process and post-process gaging systems. The UL2 also features an acoustic emission monitoring system (AEMS), Landis-Bryant spindles, a variety of dressing options and a Fanuc i Series control.
