Sulzer unveils advanced XFP ContraBlock Evo hydraulics with high-head variants
Diana Aoun | July 13, 2024Innovative pump solutions specialist, Sulzer, has introduced the next generation of its XFP range. Now equipped with ContraBlock Evo hydraulics, this new range includes new high-head variants designed to tackle demanding environments such as wastewater systems, particularly sewage pumping stations. The updated XFP range addresses the growing challenge of blockages caused by fibrous materials and other substances.
The XFP range, known for its energy efficiency and reliability, now features ContraBlock Evo impellers, which can also be retrofitted to existing pumps. These impellers have been specifically engineered with advanced geometry that minimizes the accumulation of solids and enhances overall efficiency. The variable slope leading edge directs solids to high-velocity areas, preventing build-up, while the optimized trailing edge reduces pulsations and vane load, extending service life.

Sulzer’s innovative design also includes a hub cone geometry that eliminates low-velocity zones, further preventing solid accumulation. The spiral flow diffuser effectively ejects solids from behind the impeller, protecting the sealing system and reducing motor load. High torque cutter rings shred fibrous debris, enhancing protection and performance.
The XFP’s impeller design allows on-site adjustments using basic tools, ensuring optimal hydraulic efficiency. The wear plate features arced slots that create micro-shearing actions and water pulses, preventing material build-up between the impeller and the plate.
These enhancements make the latest ContraBlock Evo impellers a significant upgrade for both new and existing equipment. The XFP range now also includes high-head models with Premium Efficiency IE3, two pole motors, ideal for more challenging applications.
