KSB Group introduces HGM-S: The high-pressure pump for biomass power plants
Diana Aoun | September 26, 2023As the global energy landscape continues to shift toward more sustainable solutions, biomass power plants are emerging as a key player in the transition from traditional coal and gas-fired stations. In response to this evolving energy paradigm, the KSB Group has unveiled the new variant of their HGM high-pressure pump — the HGM-S — tailored to meet the unique demands of biomass and refuse incineration power stations.
The cutting-edge design of the HGM-S places a strong emphasis on reliability, service-friendliness and cost-effectiveness, making it an ideal choice for modern power generation facilities.
A notable feature of the HGM-S is its internal, product-lubricated plain bearings, which eliminate the need for external supply systems. These close-spaced bearings not only reduce vibration levels but also significantly decrease wear and tear, enhancing the pump's durability.
The combination of a suction stage impeller and axial inlet results in a low Net Positive Suction Head (NPSH) requirement, ensuring excellent suction characteristics. Furthermore, the axial inlet design contributes to the pump's compact and space-saving footprint, ideal for installations where space is at a premium.
Maintenance is made hassle-free with a mechanical seal at the drive end, easily accessible from the outside. This smart seal design, coupled with the pump's internal arrangement, eliminates the need for external piping for cooling and lubrication circuits, streamlining spare parts stock and servicing.
HGM-S pumps can deliver a maximum flow rate of 390 m3/h (1,717 US gpm) and a head of up to 1,000 m (3,280 ft), with electric drive ratings ranging from 10 kW to 1,300 kW. Casings are available in both steel and stainless steel, while all impellers are crafted from high-quality stainless steel, ensuring longevity and robust performance.
