Packaging solutions company Melodea, Ltd. has developed a barrier product intended to allow for the recyclability of plastic food packaging.

The MelOx NGen, which is a water-based, plant-derived coating engineered to line the inner surface of plastic food packaging — like films, pouches, bags, lidding and blister packs used to store consumer packaged goods (CPG) — reportedly maintains food freshness and reduces plastic waste.

Further, the coating helps protect and extend the shelf-life of foods with its lining of transparent coating on the inside of the packaging.

The MelOx NGen has been selected as a finalist in the Sustainability Awards 2023, in the sustainability in packaging category organized by Packaging Europe.
