U.S. nuclear technology developers eyeing the export market must navigate regulations and policies implemented to ensure that international safeguards, security and nonproliferation standards are met. A new online tool from the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) is now available to aid these efforts.
The U.S. Nuclear Nexus tool is designed to foster timely connections between NNSA and the U.S. nuclear industry on the global deployment of advanced nuclear technology. The online portal will serve as a single point of access for NNSA and DOE national laboratory recommendations, training, tools and other relevant technical expertise and guidance on nonproliferation. The site includes information about incorporating international nuclear security, nuclear safeguards and proliferation resistance into advanced reactor designs.
Nexus also will help industry better understand complex U.S. export control regulations for civilian nuclear technology. Plans include expanding the site, which will be maintained by U.S. Argonne National Laboratory, to offer material and resources to academics working in nuclear technology.
