AVK recently launched its new range of large diameter resilient seated gate valves for fire protection applications. The latest addition to AVK’s fire protection valve portfolio consists of gate valves in DN450-600 (18 inches – 24 inches), available in three main variations:

  • with rising stem (OS&Y) and handwheel,
  • with non-rising stem (NRS), post indicator flange and wrench nut, or
  • with NRS, ISO flange and wrench nut.

The valves are designed with a fully vulcanized wedge using AVK's EPDM rubber compound, which comes with multiple drinking water approvals. EPDM rubber has proven outstanding durability due to the ability to regain its original shape, the double bonding vulcanization process, and the robust wedge design. The fixed, integral wedge nut prevents vibration and maximizes durability while the triple stem sealing system, aluminum-bronze stem and superior corrosion protection further enhance reliability and extend service life.

Additional design features include a gland-follower for re-tightening with three main O-rings. The thrust bearing consists of stainless-steel discs coated with a low friction, self-lubricating bronze-PTFE composite. In some models, a round NBR bonnet gasket fixed in a recess is available to avoid blow out along with countersunk and sealed stainless steel bonnet bolts encircled by the bonnet gasket.

AVK has ensured no hollows or cavities exist anywhere in the valve body where stagnant water might collect and cause contamination. The valves can be installed with either a horizontal or vertical stem and come with integrated lifting eyes for easy handling and bosses that provide by-pass capability. The fusion bonded epoxy coating is DIN 3476 part 1 compliant and EN 14901, GSK approved.

UL and FM approvals are some of the most well recognized global standards that ensure quality, safety, and standardization. This makes the new, large diameter resilient seated gate valves from AVK some of the most durable and reliable valves on the market.
