Michigan to be home to proposed CAV corridor
Marie Donlon | August 17, 2020A corridor to serve as the infrastructure for future vehicles is under development in Michigan.
According to reports, the corridor, which will connect Detroit and Ann Arbor, Michigan, will be dedicated to connected and automated vehicles (CAV). Developers — including Ford Motor Company, the University of Michigan, MCity Test Facility, Transportation Research Institute (UMTRI), the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT), the American Center for Mobility (ACM) and Cavnue, a subsidiary of Sidewalk Infrastructure Partners — expect the corridor to reduce traffic, accidents and commute times.
“…Here in Michigan, the state that put the world on wheels, we are taking the initial steps to build the infrastructure to help us test and deploy the cars of the future,” said Michigan’s Governor Gretchen Whitmer, as she announced the project. “As we rebuild our roads to ensure every Michigander can drive to work and drop their kids at school safely, we will also continue working to build smart infrastructure to help prepare us for the roads of tomorrow.”
Phase One of the project, according to developers, will focus on technology testing and roadway design.
