Wind to power offshore oil and gas platformsEngineering360 News Desk | April 10, 2020
A Norwegian oil firm is preparing to build a floating offshore wind farm in the North Sea.
Equinor will construct and operate the Hywind Tampen floating offshore wind farm, which will power the Shorre and Gullfaks offshore oil and gas platforms.
The floating offshore wind farm is expected to feature 11 8-MW wind turbines and will be placed roughly 85 miles from shore between the two fossil fuel platforms.
In total, the wind farm is expected to generate 88 MW of energy, meeting roughly 35% of the yearly power demand of the oil and gas platforms.
