Cornell University’s Institute for Food Safety has launched a comprehensive website to provide commercial food processors with essential information during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Coherent safety information for food processing plants in New York and other states is aggregated on the Food Industry Resources for Coronavirus (COVID-19) site. The resources are continually updated and provide guidance on keeping a proper social distance, washing hands, cleaning and disinfecting large food manufacturing facilities and food retail stores.

The information is intended to help food processors determine what is relevant for protecting the public and their own employees, and to help maintain a safe food supply. While there is no evidence suggesting that COVID-19 is transmitted through food consumption, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the European Food Safety Agency, access to updated information on best practices is crucial to eliminating risks associated with food production.
