Image credit: WikipediaResearchers from Stockholm University in Sweden have developed a new packaging solution that neutralizes smelly foods.

The film was developed out of zeolites, which are microporous solids containing aluminum, silicon and cellulose from wood.

Through testing, the researchers learned that the film could trap the sulfur-containing compounds often responsible for bad food smells. The absorption took odors down to levels that cannot be smelt by the human nose.

This study was published in the journal ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces.
