Watch: The first 10 MW offshore wind turbine from Siemens Gamesa

The new SG 10.0-193 DD offshore wind turbine's larger rotor diameter of 193 m installed in conjunction with the company’s direct drive generator technology, along with 94 m long blades that provide a swept area of 29,300 m², make the 10 MW rating possible. A prototype is scheduled for installation in 2019 with commercial market deployment expected in 2022.
These upgrades enable the new SG 10.0-193 DD offshore wind turbine to offer 30% higher annual energy production relative to its predecessor, the SG 8.0-167 DD. The output from one turbine can supply power to about 10,000 European households.
The wind turbine’s nacelles will be fabricated at the company’s factory in Cuxhaven, Germany. The technology on the offshore direct drive platform allows for the re-use of most components from previous generations, providing a short time to market.
