L'Oreal Develops Wearable to Monitor UV, Pollution and Pollen Exposure

Although known for cosmetics and beauty products, L’Oreal is fast becoming a name in the wearables market. First for its release of the My UV Patch, which informs wearers about UV exposure; then with the UV Sense device, which monitors sun exposure. Now they've debuted a battery-free wearable that tracks a user’s UV, pollen, pollution and humidity exposure.
Developed in partnership between the L’Oreal skincare brand La Roche-Posay and Northwestern University Professor John Rogers, the My Skin Track/UV is powered by a user’s smartphone via near-field communication.
The waterproof device, activated by the sun, offers immediate condition updates and stores data collected over three months concerning, first and foremost, UV exposure, and secondary information about pollution, pollen and humidity levels.
“La Roche‑Posay believes that better looking skin starts with healthy habits. That's why we are committed to bringing scientific progress directly to consumers, so that they can make well-informed decisions that will help them take exceptional care of their skin," said Laetitia Toupet, global general manager of La Roche‑Posay.
The device is available on apple.com and at Apple stores.
