Stephen Hawking Warns That Humans Only Have 600 Years Left on Earth

09 November 2017

With concerns about population increases and climate change on the horizon, Professor Stephen Hawking, the former professor of mathematics at the University of Cambridge and author of best-selling "A Brief History of Time," is warning that the amount of time that humans have left on earth is dwindling.

Expressing his concerns at the Tencent Web Summit in Beijing on Sunday, Professor Hawking noted that the amount of time left until the inevitable "Doomsday" is in the neighborhood of 600 years from now.

This isn't the first time Hawking has issued such a dire warning.

Earlier in the year, Hawking cautioned: “We are running out of space and the only places to go to are other worlds. It is time to explore other solar systems. Spreading out may be the only thing that saves us from ourselves. I am convinced that humans need to leave Earth.”

Hawking has also recently issued warnings about humans eventually being destroyed by artificial intelligence.

I think it's closer to 6 years. Some of us will be leaving soon.
