Tracking People Using Hacked Smartphone

Do you feel like someone is watching your every move? Now, thanks to a program designed by researchers at the University of Washington, people will have that capability.

The program can turn a hacked smartphone into an active sonar system able to track a person's repeated movements inside a room.

Relying on a series of pulses detected by the speakers of the hacked smartphone, the program, called CovertBand, alerts a remote attacker of any movements detected in the room.

For now, the program is only capable of detecting repetitive motion, but creators believe that with machine learning, the program can eventually learn to identify other movements.
